I don’t buy it.

Apparently Stephen made a joke comparing Republicans to Klingons in thier use of the word “honor” that was similar to one made by Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks on Air America. Here are the jokes:

Again, I don’t buy it:

1. It’s an obvious joke that any nerd can make. It doesn’t require huge leaps in thinking to link the two.

2. It’s not very good, regardless. Why steal a mediocre joke? In fact, Colbert’s joke had a funnier punchline.

3. Small time radio/internet political show goes after hugely popular comedy show and gets lots of attention from the media and schlubs like me. You do the math.

Which is exactly what The Young Turks are hoping. They aren’t mad; it’s just a publicity stunt. You have to admire that. Stephen will use it on his show, probably have Mr. Uygur on, putting his face in front of a couple million people (about 999,990 more than he’s used to) and another 3 minutes of comedy gold will be mined.

Then it will all be over.

This talk of joke stealing reminds me of a very funny bit by comedian Morgan Murphy who claims Carlos Mencia “stole her jokes.” I love this bit.
